Informing,Empowering and Entertaining the People
Wantok System comes from the word 'Wan talk' and 'System' loosely used to describe a people speaking the same tongue.
Wantok system is very common in Solomon Island and Papua New Guinea.
It is an unwritten social contract that acts like a safety net.In countries were unemployment is high and developments moves slow, people rely on Wantok system.
Traditionally it was all about the family, the clan and the tribe.Confirming the phrase 'Blood is thicker then water, for e.g. a farmer will feel obligated to pay the school fee of an unemployed relative who wants to go back to college.
Today Wantok system extends beyond villages into towns, the government and work force. For example, if you are in trouble and you come from the same part of the country as me,I am obligated to help you out.A kind of favoritism based on kinship or plain nepotism.
